Leadership Toolbox: Tips for living a well-balanced life
Posted by John Weyer on January 7, 2009
This edition of Community Leader focuses on the spiritual, recreational and artistic opportunities both as they relate to our communities and our individual lives. As the schedules of community leaders are often busy and challenging, balance can be a more difficult achievement in our personal lives. With that in mind, listed below are six tips for living a well-balanced life:
No. 1 - Define What Balance Means For You. There is not a magic balance point, and balance differs for each individual. Know what you mean by living in balance.
No. 2 - Balance Is A Process Not a Product. Finding balance is a journey a constant journey. As circumstances change, you need to recalculate how you will be in balance now. Be flexible. Stay attentive.
No. 3 - Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff. Let the small things go every now and then. Focus your time and effort on what has the biggest impact on you, your life, and the community.
No. 4 - Keep it Simple. Streamline your life. Get rid of clutter, set priorities (and keep them), and practice saying no.
No. 5 - Manage Your Time. Delegate. Let go when you do. Keep a list. Make choices wisely.
No. 6 - Nurture Your Relationships. Achieving life balance thrives when you cultivate relationships that bring you joy, hold you accountable, and support you when times get tough.
